Niniola – Without You (Album)
Grief becomes the emotional centre of Without You, a deeply personal four-track EP from Nigerian Afro-house star Niniola, created in memory of her late husband and business manager, Michael Chiedu Ndika.
Niniola approaches the project from the aftermath of loss, documenting pain, absence, remembrance and the difficult adjustment to life without a longtime partner. The writing feels especially intimate because the experiences behind it come directly from a period that changed both her personal and professional life.
Niphkeys handles production across the EP, giving the short project a consistent musical direction while leaving enough space for Niniola’s storytelling to remain central. The entire set runs for roughly ten minutes, making it concise without diminishing the weight of its subject.
Without You is notably removed from the dance-floor energy often associated with Niniola’s catalogue. Instead, she uses the project to process bereavement openly, resulting in one of her most vulnerable bodies of work.
