The performer list on Party Starter (PS2) takes another turn with “Wavey”, an Afrobeats collaboration between Nigerian producer Masterkraft and The Nweke Kids.
The record introduces The Nweke Kids into a project already populated by a varied collection of collaborators, giving Masterkraft another partnership distinct from the artists used on the first Party Starter instalment.
At around three and a half minutes, “Wavey” is one of the more concise Afrobeats entries on the album. Its length gives the collaboration a compact format compared with several of the project’s recordings that stretch beyond four minutes.
A rotating cast has long been central to Masterkraft’s work, whether producing for major stars or assembling releases under his own name. Working with less familiar names here also gives the album room to introduce listeners to performers outside the most obvious mainstream choices.
